The best multiplayer drift games depend on how your group plays. Mars Rally Championship, a free browser rally game, is listed first because it is ours: up to eight pilots slide the same Mars stage from one invite link, with no account, but the rovers pass through each other and nothing judges a tandem. On merit, CarX Drift Racing Online has the real tandem lobbies, up to 16 with crossplay; Forza Horizon 6 rewards convoys that drift together; and Drift.io is the browser pick for battles.
In-game screenshot: an online race played back from its tapes, a translucent rival rover's nose inside the followed one's tail; rooms have no collisions.
Open a room and send the link; nobody needs an account. The quick picks, by use case:
- Judged tandem drifting: CarX Drift Racing Online, lobbies up to 16 with crossplay.
- Drifting together in an open world: Forza Horizon 6, convoys of up to 12.
- Browser battles with friends: Drift.io, lobbies for up to 8.
- No account, any device, one link: Mars Rally Championship, our game, up to 8 per room.
- Two players on one keyboard: Nightfall Drifters.
- On a phone, as a download: CarX Drift Racing 2.
What a group needs from a multiplayer drift game
Seven questions decide a session: is there a private room, is there a public lobby, is there a tandem or battle mode that judges two cars together, do cars collide, how many fit, what account or subscription does online play need, and can a friend on a phone join someone on a PC. We compared them from each developer's page, store listing or portal listing, or from a named guide where the developer is silent. Mars Rally Championship's details come from its own code. We did not hand-test every game, and "not confirmed" means we could not check it. Last checked: October 2026.
There are two kinds of multiplayer drifting. In the first, the game judges cars together: a lead car and a chase car are scored as a pair in tandem, or players fight in a battle. In the second, everyone drives side by side and is timed or scored separately. The first is closer to real drift events; the second is easier with a group. How drifting works in racing games explains how tandem judging works in principle.

The games, ranked for drifting with friends
1. Mars Rally Championship: eight pilots, one link, no account
Our game, listed first for that reason. This is Mars Rally Championship's own site; everything below it is ranked on its merits.
The host creates a private or public room and shares the invite link, copied or sent through the phone's share sheet; a friend can also type the room's code. The host picks one of the three stages, everyone readies up, and the countdown syncs across every browser. Up to eight pilots drive at once, each timer runs from your own GO, and the server ranks the finish times. Online times post to the leaderboard automatically, tagged ONLINE. The slide itself comes from the handbrake: it locks the two rear wheels, and on loose regolith a sideways tire bites with up to 35% extra grip.
The limits are plain. Rovers do not collide, by design, so you can drive through a friend. Nothing judges a tandem, there are no drift competitions and there is no drift score; the game only logs drift seconds toward career totals. Everyone drives the same rover with no tuning, there are three stages, and there is no split-screen. Leaving mid-race is a DNF, and pause is disabled.
Play free — no download2. CarX Drift Racing Online: real tandem lobbies, with crossplay
CarX Drift Racing Online, from CarX Technologies, has been on Steam since 2017 and reached PlayStation 4 in February 2020 and Switch on 24 June 2021. The Xbox store listing gives online multiplayer for 2 to 16 players and tandem drifting, with a Top 32 tandem event to compete for. Crossplay links Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and PC. It is the closest match for judged tandem, and a paid download. Private-room rules and collisions are not confirmed.
3. Forza Horizon 6: convoys that drift together
Forza Horizon 6 launched on Xbox Series X and S and PC on 19 May 2026 at $69.99, and is in Game Pass Ultimate, according to Gaming Trend. A PlayNews guide says convoys hold up to 12, the open world up to 72 players, and link skills reward drifting at the same time as a convoy mate. Shacknews notes the touge races emphasise drifting and control, while Gamegeeker calls the handling comfortably arcade. The PS5 version is dated 26 January 2027 and needs PlayStation Plus online. Collision rules between players are not confirmed.
4. Drift.io: drift battles in a browser tab
Drift.io on CrazyGames runs on desktop, mobile and tablet. Its modes are Battle (rockets, freezing laser beams and bouncy explosives), Grand Prix, and Time Trials with monthly leaderboards, and you can create a lobby with up to 8 friends or join players from around the world. A drifted.com review says it is not trying to be a realistic sim drifter; note that drifted.com publishes competing games. Expect a weapons-and-items arcade game with portal ads. Contact rules and accounts are not confirmed.
5. CarX Drift Racing Online 2: ranked duels, still in Early Access
CarX Drift Racing Online 2 entered Steam Early Access on 7 May 2026 at $24.99. It offers online play for up to 16 players with custom lobbies and ranked duels, freeride on 6 maps, and tandem drift training. Profiles will be wiped at least once before full release, expected at the end of 2026, and it is PC only for now.
6. Madalin Stunt Cars 3: a browser lobby with no rules
Madalin Stunt Cars 3 lists single-player and multiplayer, 60-plus cars and three maps, on madalingames.com and two sister domains. A how-to says you pick a name, create a lobby for friends or join public rooms, and that the Dockyard map suits drifting. Third-party guides, lambocars.com among them, describe password-protected private rooms. There is no drift mode or score. The player cap and collisions are not confirmed.
7. Sky Car Drift: online battles in a phone browser
Sky Car Drift, from Plum Games on CrazyGames, runs on desktop, mobile and tablet in landscape, with trophies that unlock 200-plus cars and leaderboards. A drifted.com review lists a Multiplayer mode of online battles with friends. Room types, the player cap and collisions are not confirmed, and there is no tuning.
8. Nightfall Drifters: two players, one keyboard
Nightfall Drifters, by Tonny Nevel on CrazyGames, is a Unity browser game from June 2023 for desktop only. It has a single-player mode and a dual-player mode, with Player 1 on W, A, S and D and Player 2 on the arrow keys, and it scores drifting. It suits two people on one computer; there is no online play, and it has not been updated since 2023.
9. CarX Drift Racing 2 (phone download, for comparison)
CarX Drift Racing 2 on the App Store is free with in-app purchases, with online rooms where you drift in real time with friends, plus XDS tandem drift and duels. A Premium subscription removes ads, and Google Play lists ads and in-app purchases. It is a download, and whether it shares sessions with the PC and console game is not confirmed.
Collisions or ghosts: what each choice costs in a drift session
Contact changes a drift session. A chase car can close in and lean on the lead, and one mistake can end two runs; drift communities run tandem with contact rules for exactly that reason. We could not confirm which of the named games let cars collide, so the table says so; only Mars Rally Championship's answer is known.
Mars Rally Championship's rooms are ghost-style. Each browser sends its rover's position at 15 Hz, draws everyone else about 150 ms behind to smooth the motion, and hides a remote rover after 500 ms of silence. Nobody can wreck your run, and a dropped connection keeps it going offline, where it still posts at the finish. The cost is no blocking, no contact and no judged proximity. Why ghost-style rooms work this way covers the trade.
Accounts, subscriptions and cross-device play
On consoles, online play usually sits behind a subscription. CarX Drift Racing Online on Xbox needs Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, per its store listing, and Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 will need PlayStation Plus. On PC, the CarX games are a Steam purchase.
In a browser the picture is lighter. Mars Rally Championship has no account anywhere; you type a call sign of up to 20 characters, and the default is PILOT. CrazyGames, which hosts Drift.io, Sky Car Drift and Nightfall Drifters, lets guests play, with an optional account for saving progress and friends.
Cross-device sessions differ more. Mars Rally Championship rooms mix desktop, laptop, phone and tablet browsers, with touch controls in landscape on phones. CarX Drift Racing Online has crossplay across PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch, and Forza Horizon 6 between Xbox and PC now, with PS5 following in January 2027. Drift.io and Sky Car Drift run in desktop, mobile and tablet browsers.

Where to try this
Start with a live room, and read how rooms work before you invite anyone. If friends are offline, ghost racing lets you race a leaderboard run's ghost. For the wider field, see multiplayer browser racing games, the free online drifting games list, and the best drifting games overview.
