The best night driving games split into racing and winding down. Mars Rally Championship, a free browser rally game, is listed first because it is ours: one rally stage on Mars, driven at night under stars, the Milky Way and two moons, with no download. For racing, try Tokyo Xtreme Racer's night highways, Need for Speed Heat's illegal night races and Le Mans Ultimate's day-into-night endurance; for a calm drive, Late Night Drive and Night Driving Simulator. Prices below were checked on 7 November 2026.

What makes a good night driving game?
Three things separate a good night game from a dark screen. The headlights have to light the road you need, not just glow. The sky or the city has to be worth the dark. And there has to be a reason to be out at night, whether that is a race to win or a mood to sit in.
The first one matters more than it sounds. At night you read the road much closer to the bumper than you do by day, so a corner arrives sooner and you slow down earlier. A game that gets this right makes you drive differently after dark. A game that only dims the sunlight gives you the same drive with less to see.
Search results for this topic mix two different wants. Some people mean night racing: highway battles, street races, endurance cars running through the small hours. Others mean a chill night drive with no clock, a quiet road and headlights. Those need different games, so this list is split in two and says where each one runs and what it costs.
Mars Rally Championship tunes its lights per sky. The headlight beams are set to 3 by day, 8 at sunrise, 10 at sunset and 12 at night, in relative units in the game's lighting, and the bumper floodlight rises from 8 to 12 at night.

Night driving games compared
Mars Rally Championship is first because it is ours; the rest are split into racing and chill, each ranked on its merits.

| Tokyo Xtreme Racer | Highway battles | Always: the Shuto Expressway at night | Windows (Steam), PS5 | $49.99 on Steam |
| Need for Speed Heat | Street racing | Night races, with cops; day races are sanctioned | Windows (Steam) | $69.99 on Steam |
| Le Mans Ultimate | Endurance sim | Day and night cycles; time of day settable | Windows | $39.99 on Steam |
| Assetto Corsa Competizione | GT3 sim | Night races | Windows (Steam) | $39.99 on Steam |

| Midnight Drive | Arcade city drive | Always: a neon city at night | Browser (Poki) | Free |
Only two entries cost nothing and run in a tab: Midnight Drive and Mars Rally Championship. Everything else is a download, mostly for Windows (Tokyo Xtreme Racer is also on PS5, Night Driving Simulator on Android), and the racing games are the priciest, from $39.99 to $69.99. Consoles for Need for Speed Heat and Assetto Corsa Competizione are not confirmed here, so the table sticks to the platform each Steam page lists.
Mars Rally Championship: a night stage on Mars
Our game, listed first for that reason. This is Mars Rally Championship's own site; everything below it is split into racing and chill and ranked on its merits.
Mars Rally Championship is a free 3D rally game that runs in the browser: no download, no install, no account. It works on a desktop, a Chromebook or a phone in landscape, and a controller works too. You drive one rover on four stages against the clock, with ghosts, leaderboards and online races of up to 8 pilots.
The night part is Stage 1, The Eight, which is always driven at night. It is a 2,676 m loop through 12 gates. It climbs 40 m to a 105 m summit at gate 4, and the finish gate stands 9 m from the start. Gold is 2:47.3. It is a rally stage, so expect planned corners and a co-driver, not a cruise.
The sky is the reason to go. At night the game draws stars, the Milky Way and both Martian moons, Phobos and Deimos, lit to match the stage sun. They are drawn larger than life and orbit faster than the real pair, so they read on screen; the Phobos and Deimos post covers what the real ones look like. The main light on the ground comes off a moon that is up, so the terrain still reads. The rover has a wraparound front light bar, a roof light bar and headlight beams, and the lighting is set per sky as described above.
Night also arrives on other stages through the daily challenge. The day rolls a stage, a sky and a board for everyone, and the sky is night on about 26% of days. You cannot pick it. Win a night daily and you unlock the hidden NIGHT OWL achievement, covered in the achievements guide. On a storm board at night the headlights cut beams through the dust haze, which you can try from Stage 1's storm board.
In-game screenshot: Stage 4 under the night sky a daily challenge can roll, headlights on the approach to gate 9, the first of a left-right-left triple.
What it does badly, plainly: there is one night stage, and night elsewhere comes only when the daily rolls it. There are no city lights, no traffic and no radio, just a dark Martian plain. It is a time trial, not a cruise. Free roam exists but is always at sunset. And the moons are drawn bigger and faster than real ones. If you want a calm drive, the chill section below is better. The stage has its own page at /stages/stage-1 and a board at /leaderboard/stage-1.

These four put a clock or a rival on the road at night. They are in merit order for night driving specifically, not for overall quality.
Tokyo Xtreme Racer: night highway battles
Tokyo Xtreme Racer is the best pure night racer on this list because the whole game is set after dark. Its Steam page describes racing through "the sealed future Tokyo night highways" in a customized car and defeating rivals in SP Battle, where drivers clash by draining Spirit Points. The courses are described as faithful recreations of the Shuto Expressway, with parking areas between battles. Full controller support is listed and many wheels are supported.
It came out of early access on 24 September 2025 (early access began 22 January 2025) from Genki Co., Ltd. It costs $49.99 on Steam for Windows, and the official site also lists a PS5 version. If you want to pick a fight on a highway at night, this is the one.
Need for Speed Heat: day races, illegal night races and cops
Need for Speed Heat splits its day. By day Palm City hosts the Speedhunter Showdown, a sanctioned competition. At night, per the Steam page, you ramp up the intensity in illicit street races that build your reputation, and the cops are waiting. So night here is a risk setting, not just a look. It is the game to pick if you want pursuit with your night racing.
It was released on Steam on 4 June 2020 by Ghost Games and Electronic Arts, costs $69.99 (the Deluxe Edition on Steam) and needs a linked EA account. It is the most expensive entry here.
Le Mans Ultimate: racing into the night at Le Mans
Le Mans Ultimate treats night as part of the race rather than a mode. Its Steam page says realistic day and night cycles are a key element, and that you can race into dusk, through night and again into dawn down the Mulsanne at over 200 mph. Custom races let you set the time of day, the session length and the weather, and weather is dynamic.
Studio 397 released it on 22 July 2025 after early access from 20 February 2024. It is $39.99 on Steam for Windows. For more sims with changing conditions, see racing games with weather.
Assetto Corsa Competizione: GT3 night races
Assetto Corsa Competizione is the official GT World Challenge game, and its Steam page lists photorealistic weather conditions and graphics and night races. That is all the page says about night, so this entry stays short: it is a GT3 sim where some races run after dark. Kunos Simulazioni and 505 Games released it on 29 May 2019, and it costs $39.99 on Steam for Windows.
Chill night driving games
These three have no rival to beat. They are for the other meaning of the search.
Late Night Drive: a city at night, alone or with friends
Late Night Drive's Steam page calls it a captivating and relaxing game about exploring the city streets in the dead of night. It has an Online Mode for up to 4 people, a Free Mode and a prompt to turn on the headlights. It also says plainly that it is not a racing game but a relaxing driving experience, and that is the right way to approach it.
Voxel Bytes released it on 7 June 2023. It costs $0.99 on Steam for Windows, the cheapest in the table apart from the free and name-your-price ones.
Night Driving Simulator: an endless road before sleep
Night Driving Simulator, by Lawis Studio on itch.io, is built for winding down. Its page recommends playing before sleep with headphones on and describes a relaxing driving simulation with no story, where you drive down an endless road in first person. You control the engine, gas, brake and windshield wiper, and you can switch between cockpit and dashcam views. Buildings and mountains are randomly generated, with different times of the day and a weather cycle, and there is no death.
Its status is "In development", it runs on Windows and Android, and you name your own price. Because of the times-of-day cycle, it is not night all the time, so the table says so. For more calm roads without a clock, see games like Slow Roads; whether Slow Roads itself has night is not confirmed.
Midnight Drive: a free neon city in the browser
Midnight Drive, by Avix Games on Poki, is a 3D car game that lets you drive around a vibrant city during nighttime, collect diamonds, pull off stunts and race against time. Gems buy better cars and customization, and you find the pink highlight to start a race. It is more arcade than chill, but it is the one free browser game here that is always night. Nothing else is confirmed on the page, so details like controls and length are left out.
Which night driving game should you play?
Pick by what you want from the dark.
- Racing on a highway: Tokyo Xtreme Racer, which is built around it.
- Racing with police chasing you: Need for Speed Heat.
- Endurance that runs from day through night: Le Mans Ultimate, with Assetto Corsa Competizione as a GT3 alternative.
- A calm drive with friends: Late Night Drive, up to 4 online.
- A calm drive alone before bed: Night Driving Simulator.
- Free in a tab: Midnight Drive for an arcade neon city, or Mars Rally Championship for a rally stage on Mars at night.
Mars Rally Championship is a narrow pick. If the stars, the Milky Way and two moons over a ridge are what you want from night driving, it delivers that and a leaderboard to chase. If you want a city, traffic or a radio, it does not.
