Mars Rally Championship runs the loop on a longer stage
Our game, listed first for that reason. This is Mars Rally Championship's own site; everything below it is ranked on its merits — and at the PolyTrack loop itself, PolyTrack still wins.
Mars Rally Championship is a free browser rally game with no download and no account. It takes the same five ingredients and stretches the track: a stage is one to three minutes of driving at gold pace rather than fifteen seconds, on sculpted Martian terrain under Mars gravity of 3.72 m/s², where braking from 100 km/h takes about 125 metres. The loop is the same. The skill it rewards is more rally than arcade.
Medal pars are derived rather than authored — the timed route length divided by
16 m/s for gold, 12.5 m/s for silver and 9 m/s for bronze — so every stage is
marked on the same scale. The author time is the one hand-set number, and it is
the aspirational ceiling. On Stage 3, The Opener, a 1,164 m timed line through 8
checkpoints, that works out to gold 1:12.8, silver 1:33.1, bronze 2:09.3, with
the author time at 1:04.0. Restart is R, from anywhere on the stage.

Ghosts are the part that goes furthest past PolyTrack. Your personal best replays as a translucent rover beside you, and because the simulation is deterministic, the leaderboard re-simulates every run from its recorded inputs before posting it: a leaderboard ghost you download and drive against is somebody else's actual run, and any board run can be watched rebuilt from those inputs — the mechanics are in ghost racing and, in more detail, in the ghost racing explainer. An opt-in rival field takes this to its conclusion and races the top three leaderboard ghosts at once, so you are not chasing a time, you are in traffic.
The shared-track ingredient arrives through the daily challenge instead of a level list: one date-seeded stage and sky, identical for every player, reset at local midnight. It is the same "everyone drives the same thing today" pressure that a PolyTrack track of the week creates, without needing a server.
The editor is where the honest mark is partial. A level editor exists and the level editor page describes what it does, but it runs on localhost for development only — you cannot open it from the site today, and you cannot share a track you built. Anyone telling you otherwise is reading the page and not the build. Three stages are drivable right now; more are being charted.

PolyTrack, by Kodub, is a low-poly time trial that runs in a browser tab and is free to play there. Tracks are built from chunky grid pieces — ramps, loops, pipes, banked corners — and the car is light, forgiving and fast enough that improvement comes almost entirely from choosing a better line rather than from delicate throttle control.
It has all five ingredients and it has them in the same tab. Restart is a keypress. Your best run comes back as a ghost. Medal targets sit on the track list so you always know what "good" is. The editor is built in, and finished tracks can be handed to someone else, which is why the supply of new tracks never runs out.
If you are looking for polytrack alternatives because you have finished the official tracks, the honest answer is that the community editor is the alternative. Nothing else on this page matches PolyTrack for volume of purpose-built short tracks. In a tab, the nearest on the five ingredients is Mars Rally Championship, with four of five, then Moto X3M, which keeps the clock and star ratings but has no ghost or editor.
Games like TrackMania: free to play, but not in a browser
This is the question worth answering precisely, because a lot of pages get it wrong. TrackMania is free — the current game has a free access tier, and the older TrackMania Nations Forever is still a free release — but it ships as a client you install, not a page you open. There is no official browser version. The closest you can get is streaming the full game into a tab through GeForce NOW, or Ubisoft's 2D top-down spin-off TrackMania Blitz; what actually works for TrackMania in a browser covers both.
What you get for the install is the loop at its highest standard: bronze, silver, gold and author medals on every track, ghosts of your own runs and of other players', restart bound to a key you will wear out, and the editor that most other track editors are imitating.
So when the search is "games like trackmania free", the accurate split is this. If free is the constraint, TrackMania qualifies. If browser is the constraint, it does not, and PolyTrack or Mars Rally Championship are where you should look.
Drive Mad and Moto X3M: short and instant, no medals or ghosts
Drive Mad
Drive Mad is a physics obstacle course: one truck, one short course, and a collapsing arrangement of ramps, seesaws and spinning blades between you and the flag. Levels last seconds and restart instantly, which is the first two ingredients handled well.
It stops there. No timer worth chasing, no medals, no ghost, no editor. A level is a puzzle you solve once and never drive again, which is a different appetite from the one PolyTrack feeds.
Moto X3M
Moto X3M is the closest of the arcade group to a time trial. The side-on bike runs are timed, backflips shave seconds off the clock, and each level awards up to three stars based on your finish time — a medal system in everything but name.
There is still no ghost and no editor, so the only record of your best run is a number. That is enough to keep you re-running a level; it is not enough to show you where the time went.
Drift Boss and Slope: perfect restarts, nothing to master
Drift Boss is a one-input game — hold to turn one way, release to turn the other — on an endless zig-zag of floating platforms. Slope rolls a ball down a procedurally generated descent that keeps accelerating until you clip a wall.
Both restart instantly, and both are genuinely good at what they do. But an endless run has no fixed track, so there is no line to learn, no par time to beat and nothing for a ghost to replay. They score on the reflex axis, not the optimisation axis. If what you like about PolyTrack is shaving 0.3 s off a corner you have driven forty times, neither of these will scratch it.
Madalin Stunt Cars 3 is a sandbox, not a time trial
Madalin Stunt Cars 3 gives you large open maps, a car select screen and a lot of ramps. It is a good way to spend twenty minutes and it is not a time trial: no checkpoints, no clock that matters, no medals, no ghosts, no editor. Its nearest equivalent elsewhere is a free-roam mode rather than a stage — which is exactly how Mars Rally Championship treats the same idea, as a mode you switch into rather than the whole game.
Which one to open first
If you want the PolyTrack loop exactly as designed, with the biggest supply of short tracks and an editor in the same tab, open PolyTrack. Nothing here displaces it at its own game.
If you will install a client, TrackMania is the deepest version of this loop that exists, and its free tier is a genuine offer rather than a trial.
If the constraint is a browser tab and you want stages long enough to have a strategy, medals with a fixed scale, and ghosts you can race three at a time, Mars Rally Championship is the pick. It trades PolyTrack's track volume for physics you can spend months on.

If you have four minutes and no intention of optimising anything, Moto X3M and Drive Mad are the right kind of disposable, and Drift Boss and Slope are better still at the pure-reflex end.
Do these run on a Chromebook or a phone
Every game on this list except TrackMania is a web page rather than an install, so it can run on a Chromebook unless the school has blocked the site. Mars Rally Championship additionally ships touch controls — throttle, brake, handbrake, an analog steering track and gear chips — on screens under 1200 px, and installs as a PWA if you want it off the tab strip. PolyTrack, Drive Mad, Moto X3M, Drift Boss and Slope are all keyboard-first, with varying degrees of touch support.
None of the browser entries need an account. That also means your times live in that browser's storage, so clearing site data clears your records.
