The racing games that play well in a phone browser are the ones built for touch. Mars Rally Championship, a free browser rally game, is listed first because it is ours: it steers with an analog track and plays in landscape only. After it come Smash Karts for multiplayer, PolyTrack for time trials, Moto X3M for side-on stunts and Drift Boss for two spare minutes. Several familiar browser racers, Drift Hunters among them, are listed for desktop browsers only, and some send phones to an app store instead.

The quick picks
- Analog touch steering on a timed 3D rally stage: Mars Rally Championship, our game (its one label). The only analog steering track documented here; landscape only.
- Multiplayer on a phone: Smash Karts. Landscape, on-screen pedals, an item button.
- A time trial on touch: PolyTrack. Touch buttons with swappable sides, plus a camera button.
- Side-on stunt runs: Moto X3M. On-screen arrows; Poki lists phones and tablets.
- Two spare minutes, either orientation: Drift Boss. One tap, landscape or portrait.
- A rally game with a phone build: Rally Racer Dirt. Landscape on CrazyGames; its touch scheme is not documented.
What makes a racing game work in a phone browser
Five checks separate a racing game that works on glass from one that merely loads.
Is the browser build listed for phones? Portals label each game by platform. A desktop-only listing tells phones to look elsewhere, sometimes to an app.
Orientation. A game can want landscape, portrait or either. Landscape-only games ask you to turn the phone, and on an iPhone a web page cannot do it for you.
The steering control. A button is pressed or it is not. A steering track reports how far your thumb sits from the centre, so part lock is possible. A one-tap game has one input that turns the car or does not.
Diagram: a steering track reaches any angle between the locks, buttons reach three, one input reaches two; the games as the post's table lists them.
Download weight. A 3D game has terrain, models and textures to fetch before you drive. The only size we can give is Mars Rally Championship's, read from its own code; none of the other eight games' pages we read states one.
Account and ads. Portal games use the portal's ad model, and some offer an optional sign-in.
Mobile browser racing games at a glance
Mars Rally Championship is first because it is ours; the rest list documented touch layouts first, then the games whose phone listings give none.
What we compared: whether each game's browser build is listed for phones, its orientation, its touch layout as documented by the developer or the portal, accounts, and ads under the portal's own rules. We read developer pages, portal listings and devlogs; we did not hand-test these games on phones or measure battery or heat. Mars Rally Championship's details come from its own code. A dash means not confirmed. Last checked: October 2026.

The games, in order of documented touch support
1. Mars Rally Championship: an analog steering track, landscape only
Our game, listed first for that reason. This is Mars Rally Championship's own site; everything below it is ordered by how much of its touch layout the developer or portal documents, and judged on its merits.
Mars Rally Championship is a free 3D rally game that runs in the browser with no download, no install and no account. Three stages are drivable. On phones and tablets under 1200 px wide a touch overlay switches on: GAS, BRAKE and HANDBRAKE, an analog steering track, look left and right, and gear chips. Because the track is analog, part lock follows your thumb, and full lock narrows with speed, from 49° below about 13 km/h to about 20° above about 27 km/h.
In-game screenshot: on a phone the settings screen opens its controls list on the TOUCH tab, each control captioned as it reads on the overlay.
It is landscape-locked through its manifest and installs as a web app; the phone how-to covers the rotate prompt and the home-screen install.
Keyboard and touch brakes are all or nothing, while a gamepad trigger can feather. A 2.5 km stage streams about 9 MB of terrain, and the game ships on the HIGH graphics preset, so a phone may want MEDIUM or LOW. Skip it if you want portrait play or a brake you can feather on glass.
Play free — no download2. Smash Karts: on-screen pedals and an item button
Smash Karts is Tall Team's kart battle, not a race. Poki documents on-screen pedals and an item button you tap to use a weapon, for desktop, phone and tablet. CrazyGames lists landscape, and the App Store listing says up to 8 players. Sign-in is optional, according to a third-party guide. Skip it if you want a timed race: the fight decides a match, and a live match wants a stable connection.
3. PolyTrack: touch buttons with swappable sides
PolyTrack is Kodub's low-poly time-attack racer, free on itch.io and on game portals. Kodub's 0.5.1 devlog from July 2025 lists a mobile camera-view button, a setting that swaps the sides of the accelerate and steering buttons, optional vibration on touch buttons and display-cutout support. The devlogs we read describe steering as buttons and announce no analog steering. Orientation is not confirmed. Skip it if you want part lock on glass: a steering button is either pressed or not. That follows from the control type; we did not test it.
4. Moto X3M: on-screen arrows for a stunt bike
Moto X3M is a side-on stunt-bike series by MadPuffers. Poki lists it for desktop, phone and tablet, with on-screen arrows: up accelerates, down brakes, and left and right balance the bike. Orientation is not confirmed. Skip it if you want a car with real handling: it is 2D, and the arrows lean a bike rather than steer one.
5. Drift Boss: one tap, either orientation
Drift Boss, from MarketJS, has a single input: Poki says to tap the screen to drift and lift your finger to stop. CrazyGames lists landscape and portrait and says the car accelerates by itself. Skip it if you want to drive: with one input there is no throttle, brake or line to choose.
6. Drive Mad: arrows that move you forward and back
Drive Mad is a side-on physics puzzle with a car, not a race. Poki lists phones and tablets, and a localized Poki page gives the mobile control as tap and hold the arrows to move forward and backward. Orientation is not confirmed. Skip it if you want a race.
7. Rally Racer Dirt: a phone build with no touch scheme listed
Rally Racer Dirt is Valvolex's rally game. Its CrazyGames listing says Unity 2023, with a browser build on desktop, mobile and tablet in landscape, 13 rally cars, 5 tracks and a real-time multiplayer mode. It lists keyboard controls and no touch scheme, so we could not confirm the phone layout. Skip it if you need the touch controls before you load it; games like Rally Racer Dirt compares the neighbours.
8. Sky Car Drift: a drift game listed for phones
Sky Car Drift, by Plum Games, is listed on CrazyGames for desktop, mobile and tablet browsers in landscape, plus the CrazyGames app on Android. It has drift trophies and leaderboards, and a third-party review reports cross-platform saves and no tuning. The touch layout is not documented. Skip it if you want to tune the car.
9. Free Rally: free roam, portrait or landscape
Free Rally, by oneru220, is a free-roam driving game with online servers. CrazyGames lists landscape or portrait, a browser build on desktop, mobile and tablet plus apps, and keyboard controls only, so we could not confirm a touch layout. Skip it if you want a timed stage.
Why some browser racers say desktop only
Several familiar browser racers carry a desktop-only label, and the pattern fits Unity's history. Unity's documentation for 2023.1 said its WebGL builds did not support mobile devices, though they might work on high-end ones. Later documentation lists iOS Safari 15+ and Android Chrome 58+, and Unity's roadmap marks mobile browser support as released, with a warning that it may exclude lower-end devices with less RAM or projects with many assets.
The portal labels line up with that. CrazyGames lists Drift Hunters, which its page says was made in Unity 5.6, as desktop-only in the browser, with iOS and Android apps for phones. It lists Burnout Drift, also Unity 5.6, for desktop browsers with apps, and Rally Point 4 for desktop; Poki lists Rally Point 5 for desktop. Dirt Rally Driver HD and Kart Wars are desktop too. Rally Racer Dirt, a Unity 2023 build, is listed for phones. An older engine build fits the label; we cannot show it is the cause. Read the platform line before you load a 3D racer over cellular.
Diagram: where portals list each browser build; both Unity 5.6 games are desktop-only with phone apps, while the Unity 2023 rally game is listed for phones.
Portrait, landscape and the rotate prompt
Safari on iOS does not support the lock method of the Screen Orientation API, so a web page there cannot turn the phone for you, and landscape games ask you to rotate it. Poki's requirements ask mobile games to fill the screen in portrait, landscape or both. CrazyGames lets developers declare which orientations a game supports, and asks players to rotate when the phone does not match.
Mars Rally Championship declares landscape in its manifest, the file an installed web app reads. In a browser tab it shows a rotate prompt while the phone is held upright.
Data, heat and battery: what is known
Mars Rally Championship's download figure comes from its own code: a 2.5 km stage streams the 36 terrain tiles its window covers, about 9 MB. Stages 2 and 3 touch the same 36, so the second costs nothing, and Stage 1's window shares 8 of them.
None of the pages we read publish heat or battery figures for these games, and we measured none. The lever you control is render load. Mars Rally Championship ships on HIGH, and the pause menu's QUALITY button steps it down to MEDIUM and then LOW, where render scale is 0.75, bloom is off and shadows halve from 2048 to 1024, with dynamic resolution scaling on top. We could not confirm other games' graphics menus. Racing games for low-end PCs covers presets on weak hardware.
Accounts and ads on phone browsers
Portal games run on the portal's ad model. Poki's FAQ says ads keep Poki free, with no paid or ad-free version, and its developer guide describes video breaks between levels and optional rewarded videos. CrazyGames' ad rules cap midgame ads at one every three minutes and ban ads during active play. "Portal ads at breaks" in the table means those documented rules, not a count we measured.
No game here requires an account. CrazyGames guests can play, and an account syncs progress across devices; Smash Karts offers an optional sign-in. Mars Rally Championship has no account, only a call sign stored in your browser, and no ads in the game or on the site. The compatibility table adds controller, touch and account columns for more games.
Where to try this
Open these on the phone itself and hold it in landscape.
- Open the game: a new pilot is offered the tutorial first; skipping it starts Stage 1, The Eight, a 2,676 m night stage
- Run the tutorial: the Proving Ground, nineteen lessons
- Open settings: the controls list opens on its TOUCH tab on a phone
- Playing it on a phone: rotate prompt, home-screen install, caching
- Games like Smash Karts: more multiplayer picks
