The best drift racing games split into two kinds: judged drifting, where angle, line and style earn the score, and racing where a slide is just the quickest way round. Mars Rally Championship, a free browser rally game, is listed first because it is ours: loose-ground slides on timed Mars stages, with no drift score. On merit, CarX Drift Racing Online 2 leads judged drifting, Forza Horizon 6 mixes touge battles with drift scoring, Inertial Drift is a racer built on drifting, and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the kart pick.

Judged drifting or racing that uses drifts?
"Drift racing" covers two different games. In the first, drifting is the competition: a judge or a scoring formula rewards angle, line and style, and the clock does not matter. Real championships do too. Formula DRIFT's 2026 PRO qualifying scores line and angle by telemetry, about 80% of the result, and leaves the other 20% to three judges who mark style (Formula DRIFT announcement).
In the second, you win by finishing first or posting the fastest time, and a drift is a tool you use only when it is quicker. On loose surfaces and in kart physics a slide often is the quick way round a corner. On tarmac it usually is not: a big angle scrubs speed, which is why the handbrake is rarely used in circuit racing (Wikipedia on drifting).
So the useful question is not which game has the best drifting but how the game is won. We sorted every pick that way, then by surface, platform, price and multiplayer, from each game's store page, official site or portal listing; Mars Rally Championship's details come from its own code. A dash means not confirmed. Last checked: October 2026. For the mechanics behind a slide, see how drifting works in racing games.
Diagram: the drift is the score in three games, one score among races in Forza Horizon 6, and only a way to win in the other five.

The games, grouped by how they are won
Entries 2 to 4 are judged, 5 is both, and 6 to 9 are racing.
1. Mars Rally Championship: racing with loose-surface slides
Our game, listed first for that reason. This is Mars Rally Championship's own site; everything below it is grouped by how it is won and ranked on its merits.
Mars Rally Championship is a free 3D rally game that runs in the browser with no download, no install and no account. You drive one rover across Martian terrain, and the clock decides everything: medal times, server-verified leaderboards and live rooms of up to 8 pilots.
Drifting is a technique, not a score. The handbrake locks the two rear wheels, the rover pivots, and full steering lock comes back so you can catch the slide. Once a tire slides sideways on loose regolith it ploughs a wedge of soil and gains up to 35% extra sideways grip, which is why a slide bites on this ground instead of washing out. It does log drift time (slip angle past about 14° above roughly 29 km/h), but only to feed a career total, two achievements, SIDEWAYS and DRIFT ROYALTY, and a daily quest.
Its limits are plain. There is no drift score, no drift competition, one rover with no tuning garage, and three drivable stages. Rooms have no car-to-car collisions, so there is no door-to-door tandem. It is not an asphalt game. Skip it if you want points for angle.
Play free — no download2. CarX Drift Racing Online 2: judged duels (Early Access)
CarX Drift Racing Online 2 is the most direct answer if drifting is the whole point. The Steam Early Access build, out since 7 May 2026 at $24.99, has a first-iteration career mode, solo and online freeride on six maps, tandem drift training, ranked duels, and a car market with tuning.
How it is won: by being judged, alone or against another driver in a duel. What drifting does: everything.
Skip it if you want to race a clock, are not on Windows, or dislike Early Access: the developer warns that profiles will be wiped at least once before full release.
3. Drift Hunters MAX: judged drifting free in a browser
Drift Hunters MAX is the free browser pick for judged drifting. It was announced in April 2022 as a rebuild from scratch with the original Drift Hunters creator. It offers 39 cars starting from a free AE86, with two VIP-only, and a Drift Attack mode judged on timers and clipping points. Later updates added mobile optimisation and an endless street mode with AI traffic.
How it is won: by drift points. Online leaderboards and sync sit behind a free sign-up, though current terms are not confirmed. Skip it if you want head-to-head racing; none is confirmed. For the wider Drift Hunters field, see games like Drift Hunters.
4. JDM: Japanese Drift Master: drift battles and races on one map
JDM: Japanese Drift Master, from Polish studio Gaming Factory, launched on PC on 21 May 2025 through Steam, GOG and Epic at $34.99. It runs on Unreal Engine 5 and is an open world set in the fictional prefecture of Guntama, a map described as 250 km, with touge-based drifting and racing challenges. Multiplayer lobbies hold up to 8 players for drift battles.
How it is won: through drift challenges and races on the same map. We could not confirm how its events are structured or how drift points are calculated, so we say no more.
5. Forza Horizon 6: touge battles and Drift Zones
Forza Horizon 6 is the one game here that is both. Playground Games released it on 19 May 2026 for Windows and Xbox Series X|S, with a PS5 version due on 26 January 2027. It is set in Japan. Its touge battles put two competitors on narrow, winding mountain-pass roads, and reviewers describe them as an emphasis on drifting and control.
Drifting is also scored. Drift Zones and Drift Attack, a permanent mode boosted by Clipping Zones, are in the official release notes. Community guides say Drift Zones score on angle, speed and duration, but Playground has not published a formula.
Skip it if you want a focused drift game: drifting is one activity among many, and the download is about 167 GB.
6. Inertial Drift: a racer where drifting is the steering
Inertial Drift is the purest racing game built on drifting. Level 91 Entertainment released it on Steam on 11 September 2020. It is a twin-stick arcade racer: the left stick steers and the right stick controls the drift. The base game has 20 tracks and 16 cars, a story mode, local split-screen and online multiplayer.
How it is won: you finish first, one-on-one, and the drift is how you steer. Nothing is judged. Skip it if you have no gamepad, since keyboard play is not confirmed, and whether online is still populated is not confirmed.
7. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds: kart drifting for boost
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, from SEGA, came out on 25 September 2025 for Steam and the main consoles. A held drift charges boost through the corner, and SEGA brought in Initial D Arcade Stage developers to tune it. Online play takes up to 12 players and local play 1 to 4.
How it is won: finishing position, with no judge. Skip it if you want a pure line contest, since items and gadgets decide races as much as lines do. It is paid.
8. EA Sports WRC: rally, where the slide is a means
Rally is the original racing that uses drifting: the stage clock wins, and a slide is how a car turns on gravel. EA Sports WRC from Codemasters is the current licensed game, released in 2023 and listed at $49.99 in snapshots. EA said in April 2025 that the 2024 season content was the last expansion and that it is pausing future rally games, though the game stays available to new players.
Skip it if you want new content. For the rest of the rally field, see games like DiRT Rally and the most realistic rally game.
9. Rally Racer Dirt: rally slides in a browser
Rally Racer Dirt is the browser option closest to rally. CrazyGames credits Valvolex, it is built in Unity for WebGL, and it runs on desktop, mobile and tablet in landscape. It is drift-based rally on asphalt and dirt with 60 challenges, a survival mode, a realtime multiplayer mode and 13 rally cars.
How it is won: challenges and checkpoints rather than full stages. Skip it if you want long stages. More in games like Rally Racer Dirt.
When a slide is faster, and when it costs you
On a judged run, angle earns points: the more the car hangs out, within the line, the better the score. In a race the clock punishes any angle beyond what the corner needs.
Mars Rally Championship shows the second case. The total grip budget on regolith is about 3.1 m/s², in Mars gravity of 3.72 m/s², and turn-in is capped near 6° per second of yaw at 100 km/h. What rotates the rover tightly is the handbrake, because the locked rear wheels give up their sideways grip. Regolith then helps: sideways grip rises by up to 35%, between about 11° and 34° of slip, with a smaller gain on polygon ground (+20%) and hardpack (+6%). The slide does not wear the tires out either: a fully sideways drift costs about 0.08 HP per second, under 5 HP a minute.
Diagram: steering alone turns the rover no faster than its grip allows, about 6°/s at 100 km/h; anything quicker takes the handbrake and a slide.
A feint does not rotate the rover; the handbrake does, as Scandinavian flick in rally games explains. The in-game tutorial teaches the handbrake pivot and catching the slide with countersteer and throttle.
Drift racing with friends
The table lists each game's multiplayer; the ones with ranked duels, drift-battle lobbies or kart lobbies suit a group of friends.
Mars Rally Championship rooms take up to 8 pilots. A private room shares a link of the form /play?join=<code>, and public rooms list in the lobby. No account is needed. Everyone drives the same stage at once and rovers do not collide, so it is a time trial against real people, not tandem. The multiplayer page covers the setup, and multiplayer drift games compares the group-drifting options.
Free drift racing games
Mars Rally Championship, Drift Hunters MAX and Rally Racer Dirt are the free browser picks here; the rest are paid. For a wider list of no-download options, see free online drifting games.
Diagram: the three free picks all run in a browser; the paid ones run from $19.99 to $69.99, judged and raced alike.
